The Gone Sweet Years
Nokia Corporation is a multinational company that enjoyed massive success in the past. Largely known for its great mobile phones, devises and advanced technological applications that enjoyed massive market share, the corporation has a long history that spans over 150 years. Nokia Corporation, initially started as a pulp mill back in 1865, has gone through tremendous transformations to where it is presently at. Strategic partnerships, business acquisitions and business expansion have seen Nokia involve itself in various businesses. It has manufactured toilet paper, tyres, rubber, cables and even television.
Nokia pioneered in technology, and was worldwide known for advanced and greatly designed mobile devises, well ahead of its peers. We all remember the iconic Nokia E90 Communicator and the imposing, sleek N Series smartphones. Nokia manufactured such great phones through the 1990s and until just recently (around 2010 and thereabouts) when it had to weigh its options and re-strategize. Not only did Nokia lose its market share on the mobile devices to cheaper Android phones and Apples Inc.s’ revolutionary devices, but also its revenue went plummeting down causing job loses and investors disillusionment. Nokia had to sell its mobile phones and devises to Microsoft, and rethink its whole business plan. Change was imminent.
Nokia Corporation, under the stewardship of Risto Siilasmaa (Board Chairman) and Rajeev Suri (CEO), the transition and recovery of Nokia back to winning winning has been commendable. Nokia acquired Siemens and Alcatel-Lucent and beefed up its telecom networking business unit called Nokia Networks. Nokia is also getting back into the phone business, through third parties through brand-licensing arrangements with them. This is so as to avoid conflict with Microsoft, whom they had sold to phone business unit.
Already, Nokia has on market the Nokia 2, 5, 6 and 8 under HMD Global. The smartphones are running Android OS platforms. The recently launched fresh looking Nokia 3310 classic brought back the sweet memories. HMD Global are doing a good job, as we wait for the real deals in the coming years. There are whispers around on Nokia Edge and Nokia Edge pro…
Nokia Corporation also develops mapping solutions for motorists, and got a deal with German automobile consortium to sell to them their digital mapping solutions mapping for a reasonably large sum, which was sound business. Always looking forward to invitations and profitable business, Nokia ventured into the healthcare business, providing digital health solutions. The Heart Rate and Activity watch, smart temporal thermometer are part of the revolutionary health products Nokia has developed t connect people with their health and professionals. Through cloud storage services, IP Connectivity and ultra broadband, Nokia has made digitization, connectivity and use of internet seamless and effective. Its solutions are timely and well thought out to consumers
